Bandari had watched the display from the Emperor with increasing admiration. Initially it felt like peacocking, as much of the Emperor's words and actions had been thus far. Raising the apprentice into the air was almost comical in its arrogance, but the power that resonated with the Emperor's words was more than just the delusions of grandeur that so many Sith throughout the ages had been afflicted with. In that moment, Bandari heard whispers of many Sith, recent and ancient, weak and powerful, failures and successes. As Umbarat dropped to the ground in front of him, he closed his eyes instinctively, and Naga Sadow stood before him. His eyes flashed red, his hand moving to his lightsaber, his gaze piercing Bandari's own.

As he opened his eyes, he realised that Cadamor had instructed Bandari to kill his apprentice, and that Umbarat was now preparing for combat, his hand dropping to his lightsaber. Bandari had no weapon. He remained passive, his stance the same as it had been from the moment he forced Umbarat to his knee. Cadamor was circling them as he spoke. The echoes of the past could be heard under every breath he exhaled.

In an instant, as he passed behind Bandari, Bandari seized one of the Emperor's lightsabers from his belt and slammed it down towards Umbarat in one single motion, igniting it as it fell. In that moment he felt everything collide; the prospect of this simply being a test as opposed to it genuinely being a fight to the death, the fact that in theory he could have just killed the Emperor by igniting his own blade after turning it to face into his body compared to the reality of attempting to kill his apprentice. Those parallels bounced off one another as Umbarat's own lightsaber ignited and rose to parry the strike, just in time.

As it was, though, Umbarat was starting the fight from a serious disadvantage as he had not stood up fully and Bandari stood some seven feet tall as it was. The apprentice attempted to recover from this situation by sweeping his leg out to take Bandari's out from under him, but the creature predicted this and calmly jumped to avoid it, but in doing so, gave Umbarat the time he needed to carry the momentum forward and roll away and to his feet. He had thrown more than one glance at his master with incresaing disbelief as he was speaking, but now his look towards Cadamor's face showed only a steely, emotionless stare. Bandari looked bizarre holding the Emperor's lightsaber, the unusual shape of his legs and absence of one arm making his stance appear crooked and unbalanced. Umbarat went on the offensive, reasoning that Bandari wouldn't have had experience with a lightsaber, wouldn't have learned the Forms of combat, and would at the very least be out of practice in one to one combat outside of his duel with Cadamor. He had been defeated there, and Umbarat had trained with Cadamor for years. If his master could beat this creature, so could he. And why did he place such value in this monster anyway? Was he, Darth Umbarat, not good enough all of a sudden? The thought filled him with rage, and his blows grew faster and more powerful as he drove on at the creature.

Yet Bandari deflected each and every attack with seeming ease. The one problem was that his claw-like fingers were not suited to holding a small handle like the one of this lightsaber. His old weapons had been strapped to his arms via a brace, with a large, flat hilt that he could grasp easily and use the whole strength of his arm to maneuver. With the apprentice's blows growing stronger and stronger, he could feel the saber begin to slip from his grasp. If only he had his other hand, Bandari thought, this fight would have been over already.

As strong as the apprentice was, Bandari did not even need the extent of his powers to predict the attacks. Millenia of studying lightsaber combat had taught him all he needed to know of the Forms of combat, though he himself had not engaged in a lightsaber duel for centuries. And the apprentice's moves were telegraphed even for non-Force users; his body weight would shift perceptibly each time he geared up to strike. He seldom feinted, and when he did, that too was obvious. Bandari moved with a speed and elegance that belied his shape and size, seeming impossibly light on his feet as he jumped and twisted and pirouetted.

After one particularly powerful strike led to a saber lock, however, one which saw Bandari again wishing he had already regenerated the entire length of his other arm, he felt the lightsaber tremble and briefly slip through his grasp entirely. Umbarat's face broke into a wicked grin and he pressed the attack, swinging for the now unprotected head. Bandari ducked, turning the movement into a shoulder charge and taking the wind out of the apprentice as his lightsaber slashed through the air mere millimetres from the top of Bandari's head. Stretching out his arm behind him, twisting it in a way no human joints would allow, he caught the handle of the Emperor's lightsaber as it dropped and ignited it, swinging it around in a reverse grip and taking Umbarat's trailing arm off midway through the forearm. As he howled in pain, Bandari righted the direction of the handle, angled the blade down and shoved Umbarat back, this time with the Force. The apprentice fell backwards and his right leg passed through Bandari's lightsaber around the upper thigh. Bandari yanked the blade towards himself to complete the cut and relished in Umbarat's pain - and the irony of another lost arm - as the apprentice collapsed onto his back, screaming in pain, his lightsaber switching off as it rolled away, forgotten.

Bandari did not so much as spare a glance at the Emperor as he brought the saber back around to his face, took a step forward so that he was over his foe, and pointed the blade at his neck, signalling his intended target for the finishing blow. He stretched out his senses to see if the Emperor was going to intervene. He felt nothing but the power of the Dark Side as he raised the blade high over his head and brought it crashing down towards Umbarat's neck.

The Power Within - Page 3 Empty Re: The Power Within

Geometric shards formed in the force, fracturing and reforming as it altered with Umbarat’s death and the Dark Lord of the Sith saw shatterpoints realign. For Angkorian, death was the honorable victory after decades of battle. For Sith, it reeked of weakness. The body of Umbarat laid on the ground, the husk of power emanating with the expanding power of the Dark Side. It beat from the dark heart of the world radiating behind Bandari.

From within Bandari’s grasp, the Emperor’s lightsaber twisted in the air and returned to him. The Dark Lord took steps towards the corpse though his eyes remained fixed on the creature heavily breathing from its kill.

“From this ground, you will stand in my new Empire.” The lightsaber that rolled away from Umbarat began to raise high in the air, it slowly filled the space between the two Sith. Emperor Cadamor's eyes glowed brighter, a circle of light raising in the twilight. The hilt shattered, it's metal pieces falling to the ground piece by piece as a crimson glow began to escape from within. When the emitter fell, only a smooth red crystal remained glowing with light that filled the earth. The crystal glided in the air until landing in Bandari's hand. "Compressed, synthetic..." The Dark Lord's voice was like velvet, "this crystal aches for a natural power in the Force. You are a monument to the Force, a vestige of its power. You are marked with the history of the Sith and I do not take this power lightly. Your council is welcome, as is your presence in the Force." As the Dark Lord spoke, the wind rose faster through the world and the trees swayed as Bandari felt the storm rising in the growing dark. The oasis world of Angkor mixed its lush jungles with dunes and pockets of deserts and the planets large scale sandstorms only served as concealment for it's most dangerous predators.

"You will learn the ways of my will. You shall be my Hand, guiding my will across the stars.” A small sprinting light high above arched away from the fortress and the glint of light on the twin horns from the Emperor’s head caught the shuttle moving towards them.

“In your service, my Empire shall be revealed to you. The secrets of the galaxy shall unfold. Through your wisdom, the stars will bow before the Sith.” The Dark Lord rose a hand to Bandari. “Let me tell you of the plans of the Sith and you will tell me the truths you see.” The sound of the shuttle slowly picked up across the growing storm winds. “And I will give you eyes to see.” The creature’s eyes glowed with the same light as the Dark Lord, a flash of white hot pain arching through it’s chest. Cadamor has touched his mind through the Force, allowing Bandari keen insight towards those in the Emperor’s kingdoms as allowing part of Cadamor himself be revealed to the creature.

Dust began spilling out behind the Dark Lord as the thin-nosed shuttle descended and cast Cadamor in it’s silhouette. The Emperor’s hand lowered and a loud rumbling sound shook through the earth as the stone wall in the mountain moved aside. The landing ramp of the shuttle touched down as figures began to appear from all around them. In Bandari’s mind, he could see each of them, his gaze piercing into the netherworld of the Force that bound each of them to the Dark Side.

Out from the glowing heart of the mountain, three tall figures moved dragging the tails of their red and black robes behind them. Barely visible and with their presence hidden in the Force, a slender figure moved in their shadows, though Bandari felt the spirit of an Angkorian within her. Two Trandoshans flanked a broad-chested Falleen wrapped in twilight robes. Darth Crienx, the name appeared in Bandari's mind as he felt the pressure of the Force contained within the smooth green scales and sharp, deadly mind hidden beneath. This Sith was the steward of Scardia, who held control of the Prophets and laid providence of the powerful nexus beneath the Church's fortress. Bandari could sense the Prophets guarding the power beneath the mountain, the krin'desh which the Emperor spoke of.

The slender figure held a different type of power. Bandari sensed even familiarity with it, a strange but powerful amalgamation of dark energy. Darth Absis. Further insight came to him in a revelation, that Absis was a daughter of the Emperor. Though through his insight provided by Cadamor, Bandari could sense a heavy weight that hung in the Force between the father and daughter.

From behind, more of the robed figures appeared and began to fill the shadows around them. A huge figure remained on the ramp, his body covered in a blue-silver armor and a it bore a violet, worn face of an unknown species. Darth Elium, Lord of War and leader of the Dark Lord's forces. His eyes were keenly kept on Bandari, a heavy weight behind them.

“Prepare the Forge.” The Emperor spoke. "We have found a great vessel of the darkness." He carefully turned towards Bandari, motioning for the creature to kneel before him. “Darth Adytis. Apprentice of the Dark Lord. Hand of my will and voice to my Empire." Through his magic, golden tendrils began twisting through air and take form. It surrounded each of the Sith until the entire twilight scene was bathed in golden light. Figures began to materialize and each of the Sith bowed before them. Bandari felt the presence of the Dark Side magnify beyond comprehension. The Emperor had reached out to the krin'desh, the heart of darkness, and had awoken the ancient Sith spirits from within. Floating before Bandari, a massive ancient Sith creature stood before him until forming the visage of Marka Ragnos.

"The chains of the grave cannot hold a Dark Lord of the Sith." The voice was all around them, raising from the ground and moving across the winds.

“Use my knowledge, I beg you.” This came from the great Emperor of the Galactic Empire, Darth Sidious who stood in black robes with his gaze piercing the heart of Bandari. The frame of Naga Sadow stood imposing over the scene, his eyes intently kept on Bandari as he looked over the creature curiously.

"Let this one dwell in the Forge." Cadamor motioned towards Bandari. "He shall seek the secrets of ancient ones. When complete, he will taken to Scardia II. He will hold dominion there and decide it's fate." Bandari felt a ripple move in the Force and it became clear in Bandari's mind as his insight took control. Both the Hands of the Emperor and Prophets have both been vying for control of Scardia II while Darth Crienx kept court there. By moving Bandari to this position and giving him control of the Emperor's Hands, he would decide the fate of the city and both the Hands and Church. Prove to me, it was as if the Emperor's words were in his mind, and I will lay it all beneath your feet.

“You,” the Dark Lord said towards Absis. “Remain in the Forge. Your mind requires further cleaning.” The Trandoshans and Falleen moved forward to beside Bandari as the Dark Lord allowed him to rise.

"Let us enter the full, raw power of the Dark Side."
